Does anyone know where China Mieville stands on fanfic of his work? I got through 13 pages of Google hits without any luck.

The trouble is, I'm about halfway through The City & The City and I am absolutely plagued with stories about the ones who can't manage to learn unseeing correctly -- the happy but learning disabled child whose mother blinded her so she wouldn't be taken away, the old man with dementia who has to be kept away from the window, the [insane?] woman who believes she used to be from the other city but fell through the cracks one day and can't get back, and she keeps getting up into the faces of citizens of the other city and yelling at them, but they of course just ignore her, and Breach, for inscrutable Breachly reasons of its own, stubbornly refuses to take her away.

There could be others too, expats who run email forwarders and mail drop services and freight forwarding, a whole parasitical just city over the *other* border to wherever, for people to pass things back and forth through; bonded couriers who walk solemnly into an empty room in Copula Hall and hand papers from the left hand to the right. But it's the ones that can't do it that are going to haunt my sleep.

Easiest way:

Contact him via his agent & ask.

I just finished reading The City & The City yesterday afternoon. Such an amazing book. I got to hear China read some of it, and answer some questions about it -- he says that yes, there's a chance that he'll write other stories set in these cities as well.

I don't know where he stands on fanfic -- he is a serious fanboy, plays a lot of RPGs as well as video games. (Yes, there's going to be an RPG set in New Crobuzon.) But asking him is the best idea. However, I do love your ideas for other people and services in the cities.

Oooh, RPG! And thanks. A mutual friend is gonna ask him for me, so I feel like less of a prat going "Hi, you don't know me, but..." at some con.

And I just finished TC&TC yesterday too!

Has your care package arrived yet ?

It has indeed; thank you so much! There was a bit of a tea explosion in the envelope, but fortunately we managed to rescue the vast majority. Books and chocolate and tea; you made my day! I haven't tried the berry yet or the butterscotches.

Could you send me your mailing address when you get a chance? I seem to have misplaced it, and I wanted to thank you properly, and send Jo a get-well note as well.
