Before I buy my Boskone membership, does anyone have one who's not going after all and wants to sell/transfer theirs? I will be daytripping from a local friend's house and likely not arrive from NYC in time to attend Friday night, but I will be at the con Sat. and probably Sunday.

Also for once I'm neither on program nor throwing a party, so if any conrunning friends need an extra pair of hands, I'm potentially dragoonable.

Who else is going to Boskone?

And who else is going to NY Comic Con this weekend?

Overlap moment.
I know, I should be getting used to those by now. But they keep ambushing me!

I'll be at Boskone. I seem to be in a play of some sort. Yikes.

A play? Where and when I can I see this play?

Tam Lin by William Shakespeare, as considered canonical on Barayar, which was actually written by Jo Walton. It's rather amazing.

We are reading it Saturday night. I am Janet. I haven't been in a play-like thing since fourth grade, so I am a bit nervous. But I think it is going to be lots of fun. :)

Ha. That would be nifty. No, we are not wearing costumes, just reading at microphones.

Are you attending Anticipation, perchance?

Probably not, sadly -- it conflicts with Pennsic, and there are a fair number of work tradeshows around then too -- even if it is not a direct conflict, there's a limit to how many days off I can take during our busy season and still meet deadline.

Not to threadjack, but Rebecca Tushnet, law professor and of the Organization for Transformative Works spoke at my law school today as part of a panel on IP.

She talked fanfic and slash (yes, she had to explain to a room full of law students and professors what 'slash' was).

I thought of you.

Threadjacking = not a problem (but a cool word). I have been an admirer of her work for years --- it is the basis of why I feel what we do actually is legal (as opposed to just should be).

Who else was on the panel?

The panel wasn't necessarily focused on Fair Use.

Jason Mazzone, who is a Con Law scholar, presented a paper arguing for a new Federal agency, "The Office of Fair Use" that would promulgate regulations about what is/is not fair use.

Jane Winn talked about e-commerce and standards integration and promulgation.

I'm not sure I agree with the implications of Tushnet's paper, but she seems like a really interesting woman. I wish I had a chance to talk to her some. I'm looking forward to the Article she'll eventually submit to be published by Law Review.

Her blog has a summary of the panel she was on: http://tushnet.blogspot.com/2009/02/boundaries-of-ip-at-william-mary_4097.html.
