Tonight I got mine.

About an hour ago the phone rang. I answered, and a woman said "I'm sorry about that" and hung up.

I have no idea what "that" was, and I don't believe I've ever spoken to her before in my life. But I'm feeling a little better, even so.

Thank you!!

(That just seemed like a good one to get every once in a while too, on general principle. So there's yours.)

Awh! Thank you for the thank you, recursive as it sounds. :)

Damn, that sounds like something that would just be nice to do. Call people up at random and offer them an apology.

Well, but some people get irritated at nonspecific apologies, and some people get irritated at anonymous phone calls or phone calls from strangers, and there's bound to be a significant overlap.

So for everybody you cheered up, there'd be somebody you pissed off.

And can I just say? Part of why I love [livejournal.com profile] stakebait is that she chooses to be cheered up rather than pissed off by this sort of thing.

Awh! Thank you, sweetie.

I'm sure you're right about annoying people though. I remember when Jesse Echo and I tried to hand out free flowers one day back in college. We made as many people suspicious and irritated as we did happy, because they thought there had to be a catch.

We live in a paranoid world.

Of course, these days it's with good reason...

That's cool that the apology made you feel better, even if it confuzzled you.

I think that's lovely. And even more lovely that you could receive it so graciously. I'd likely be one of the confused or paranoid ones. So it's a good lesson for me in attitude. Thank you!

Good lord! That's truly disturbing.

It reminds me of that guy in the Hitchhiker's Guy books whose mission was to insult every single person in the universe in alphabetical order.

Oh that's Wonderful. (Of course now I'm wondering who she meant to call and how they're going to be even angrier or whatever because they think she hasn't apologised and she's gonna be confused and pissed because she has . . . ) But it's still wonderful!

Okay yeah, there's that. :) But since I'll never know, I can just make something up -- like the person she wants to apologize to used to live here, and since she can't find them she figured this would be symbolic, or something.

Yeah, generalised apology to the world, the karmic gains of apologising to *someone* . . .

I've actually done this at work. Namely, I do phone research, and sometimes we call places where we've already got enough interviews from the area... so we generally apologize and hang up...

(And hi again!)

Bwah!

That's fantastic. Whenever I get mysterious phone calls it's either some bloke wanking furiously or the social after this woman whose name no-one can pronounce. If anyone could tell me her name then I could find her and ask her to fess up to the fact that she got cut off and her number was reassigned (a year ago and she's still giving out this number). But no-one can, so I answer the phone about twice a day to someone asking for Mrs Humdudeleduh.
