My new favorite store

The Superhero Supply Company in Brooklyn. Okay, it's really a tutoring center, dressed up like a Superhero Supply Company to capture kids' imaginations. But maybe it's really a Superhero Supply Company dressed up as a tutoring center. (AH writing staff, please take note.) Anyway, it's cool. I hope it works. And I think it's extra cool that Michael Chabon and Jonathan Letham made suggestions.

(I got the heads up from Publishers Lunch, BTW, and the link from Google).

Very cool. I have to say, for all my ambivalence about Dave Eggers, he does give a lot back.

Why are you ambivalent about Eggers? I admit, I'm not even 100 percent sure who he is, though the name is familiar.

Well, his claim to fame is his memoir about raising his kid brother: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, but he's also written a novel, and he's the publisher of a fantastic literary journal called McSweeney's. He's made a mint on AHWOSG and does a lot of great things with his money--funding writers and other sorts of community groups--and I really applaud him for that. I guess my ambivalence has to do with his sometimes abrasive personality and condescending attitudes toward people in the publishing industry, but none of that takes away from his many worthy accomplishments.

You realize of course we can't possibly use this for AH.

Nobody would believe it.

Heh. I think we could. Don't want to go into too much detail in the comments to a public post, but given that we're setting up Weird Cool New York as a theme, it could work as, say, them doing a Public Service Announcement. If they agree, of course. And hey, free publicity for them, and for us from them.
