Question for the writers/scriptwriters/agents/TV or film knowledgeable folks:

Does this look legit to you? It would be the perfect break for my TV premise, but I have to wonder whether it is a scam, considering that they're soliciting unagented ideas through Craig's list and give no company name to check out.

It smells funny to me, though I have no concrete reason for it. Just...isn't what I'm used to seeing.

I've never heard of a reputable production company soliciting scripts before. Generally, they're snowed under by scripts being mailed to them and this particular organization doesn't give any details. I suppose it can't hurt to reply and see if you can get more details out of them. I don't know if I'd send them an idea without more info though, I'd be concerned that they might rip off your idea since they do sound a bit suspect.

*nods* Me neither. The only reason I even considered it is that I can't see why anyone would *want* a bunch of unsolicited submissions, and they're not asking for money.

Thanks!

First impression: Run. Scream for dramatic effect while doing so.

Second impression: They want to be cagey, you can be cagey, too. This could be anyone, including someone looking to get some scripts to rip off. Get them to give you a phone number or a "real" email address. Track said entity from there.

I thought of that, but then what would they do with ripped off scripts? It's not like scripts are such a scarce commodity.

The scam of charging money that someone else suggested seems more likely.

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turned out to be a scam where they try to get money out of you to 'edit' your script and make it marketable.

That makes tons of sense. Thanks! The one thing I couldn't figure out was, if it was a scam, what they were getting out of it.

Yeeeeah. Sounds awfully fishy to me. But who knows, it could be totally legit, just badly phrased (like this comment). Try to get more info before you do anything.
