For [livejournal.com profile] batyatoon, lyrics to the song I sang at Lunacon.

Conventional Wisdom )

It's the verse with all the "I've seen"s that I forgot to, you know, actually sing. And I think I only did the short version of the chorus at the end.

If you can get a blimp for $1500, why don’t we all have one? I know what I want for Christmas!

For the jewelry makers among you, would this work?

You've probably heard it already, but the Angel's Food Drive is a great idea: ask the WB to renew Angel by giving money to the LA food bank to "help the helpless". That way whether we win or not, you know you've done something worthwhile. Character days let you support your favorites, but I couldn't find a schedule in advance. Y’all will tell me when it’s Day of Spike, right?

The Supreme Court hears case on whether we have to identify ourselves.

Pleasant courtside manner or not, Scalia’s really smoking the good stuff, isn’t he? Isn’t “a good citizen doesn’t have anything to hide” the classic argument of invasions of privacy anywhere?

Maybe I do have something to hide. Doesn’t mean it’s illegal. Maybe I’m cheating on my wife, maybe I told my boss I was home sick, maybe I just don’t like your face. Maybe I’m not “a responsible citizen”. Maybe I’m a cranky embittered old bitch. I’m *allowed* to be. When we’ve shifted the burden of proof from the police to show why they need to know to me to justify why I don’t want to tell them, that’s big.

[livejournal.com profile] genarti mentioned the song “Easy People” by the Neilds, so I looked up the lyrics and found:

We sat around the table and drank a bottle of wine
And it poured around us like a moat till no one could get us, and I was fine
And I said, "Haven't I paid my dues by now, haven't I paid my dues by now
Haven't I paid my dues by now, don't I get the right to choose?
And I choose you to take up all of my time
I choose you because you're funny and kind
I want easy people from now on"

That just rang like a water glass for me. Maybe not for always -- I’ve loved my difficult people -- but in that moment it was perfect.

[livejournal.com profile] ursulav has a perfect explanation of how I felt about the Orson Scott Card article, and even gave it a name.

My liberating moment of the morning Cut for navel-gazing and taking offense at small matters )
