Mar. 14th, 2004 09:18 pmI am home.
Maple syrup is made, nowadays, by tying a bunch of trees together with bright plastic tubing until the woods look like lace. Or like the best kid's birthday party I ever went to, where you had to follow a piece of string through an incredible house-wide web to find a surprise.
I don't know what baby oxen are called. Lambs are adorable.
Old style maple sugar looked like rocks. Massachusetts had the highest percentage of abolitionists in the country in the 1830s -- two percent. Abolitionists ate maple sugar because cane sugar was made by slaves. Not many other people did, though - mostly because they'd cut down all the trees.
I am now the proud owner of six new things to spread on bread, a half-pound block of maple sugar, a 1910 coffee grinder, and a vaccuum cleaner.
Came home to find:
My cat holds grudges.
jodyorjen is safe.
amberfox posted this horrible account of what the US is doing in Camp X-Ray. I'm told the Guantanamo Bay case comes before the Supreme Court soon. They damned well better shut this thing down. This is an abomination.
