So there's this kid, right? And he's gay. And the web site that helped him figure himself out goes pay, which compromises a lot of kids' anonymity. So he goes out and starts his own free, anonymous site for gay youth. Which is awesome, right? Proactive community building, exactly the kind of happy ending the Internet ought to provide? Yeah, until his school finds out and expels him.
I really identify with this kid, 'cause I remember being an isolated teenage sex freak with no one to ask, and I remember finding the BDSM community on Usenet and it being like the world suddenly changed. And I remember starting a group to reach other people too young for the adult groups, and having to call the ACLU because conservative Christians were trying to shut us down. But at least I was in college and not living with the parents I suddenly needed to come out to. At least even when our group was kicked out, I wasn't.
Anyway. The web site he started is here. I can't afford much, but I sent a Paypal donation.
