In case you missed it, Joss hath announced: There shall be no Serenity until September 30. Wherefore I am alone and palely wandering into a hedge, or something like that. Sulky knights get all the best scenery.
*pouts* Damned stupid marketing reasons. How many space westerns with quippy yet disillusioned anti-heroes could there possibly be coming out in late April?
Wait. I take that back, or there'll be six.
Anybody in the Greater NYC area want to make an opening night outing of it, when it finally does arrive?

But I don't get this either, and think that Joss' "this is not that bad at all" statement is covering for how he really feels. He just doesn't want to anger the new studio he's at, since they haven't bothered him much till now.
"Sky Captain" suffered a similar fate, getting bumped from summer to fall, and it vanished pretty fast. I wish I didn't see the same thing happening here.
That said, though, the original opening date for Serenity was right before Passover, so there was a good chance I wouldn't get to see the movie in the theaters anyway. September might work better.
But wouldn't we rather see Episode III delayed intstead

Oh well. I'll bow to the inevitable... and that means the DVD's not likely to be out at Christmas now.

It's not just Sin City that Universal's concerned about -- it's the XXX sequel, it's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (another cult SF property, but one with a lot more name recognition), and there's the danger of being swallowed by the Revenge of the Sith hype machine (let's face it, the entire month of April is going to be ceded to 20th Century Fox's publicity department).
Sky Captain isn't a good comp, because delay was announced very close to the release date, after they'd already started showing trailers. Serenity's marketing campaign wasn't even originally going to start until Feburary (the trailer was going to debut in front of Elektra).

We've fallen out of the habit of watching movies on opening night.. but I think we'll be able to make it with nearly 10 months to schedule...
