Oct. 15th, 2005 04:16 pmThe Elegant Arts Society is having its annual Regency ball next weekend -- Saturday, October 22 -- in New Haven, CT. It's pretty easy to get to if you're anywhere from NYC to Boston.
Alas, I cannot go this year, but anyone who is interested in Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, Patrick O'Brien (Master and Commander), dancing, or history should really consider checking it out -- it's the most fun I've ever had in a corset, which is really saying something considering my other hobbies. :)
You don't need a partner or a costume, though both are welcome if you've got 'em -- just a nice dressed up outfit and some flat shoes you can dance in. There's country dances, quadrilles, (think elegant square dancing), and waltzes, so if you've ever done SCA dancing, or contra, or ballroom, you've got a head start, and there's workshops in the afternoon as well as calling at the ball by Susan de Guardiola and Patri J. Pugliese. There's live music by Spare Parts. And there's real Regency refreshments -- try the syllabub!
Location: Trinity Lutheran Church ~ 292 Orange Street ~ New Haven, Connecticut
Time: Workshops: 12-4 p.m., Ball: 7:30-11 p.m.
Cost: $20 in advance - this rate will be accepted through the 21st - or $25 at the door.
Those aged 13-21 will be admitted for only $10. Advance registration is appreciated to allow proper planning of refreshments.
More information may be found here or by emailing assembly05@elegantarts.org.
