Thanks to
eac for the heads up:
OSC believes being gay and doing gay are not the same thing. Or something? I had a heck of a time summarizing that link, because I'm not sure I understand it.
Apparently the new Special Counsel has decided to reinterpret a law that's been on the books since 1978 in such a way that you can be descriminated against for the general state of gayness as long as no one mentions an action you took outside work to produce this impression?
Next up: sex discrimination is okay as long as they don't fire you for a specific instance of acting girly.
From
lucifrix Parents upset over same-sex fairy tale from school library. My favorite part is where they won't give the book back in case somebody else reads it. Because it doesn't meet their family's standards. Because secretly, they are the parents of ALL THE CHILDREN IN THE WORLD. Bwahahahaha.
Or, alternatively, they're buttinskis of the worst sort. You don't want your kid to read it, so you took it away. So far so fair, if unfortunate for your potentially open-minded kid.
Now give it the hell back to the library. Because a) it is not yours, which is the kind of explanation that even a small and homophobically raised child should be able to understand.
And b), because I want my kid to be able to take it out, and that's not up to the guy down the street to decide. In my hypothetical household, I will have far greater faith in my children's ability to understand things, and not only do we believe in homosexuality, we throw it parties. Borrowing the gay book means the tooth fairy and her domestic partner bring you extra cash. :)
