Iowa BDSM student group charged with assault. Thanks to nightstalker for the link.

For those who don't know, I was one of the co-founders of Conversio Virium, the BDSM group at Columbia University. And we were kicked off campus and had to fight to get re-recognized. It was ... a big thing in the life of Mer. So seeing this in the inbox was scary. ( Read more... )

In sillier news, I had lunch with my friend Steve, who looked at my book labeled "Memoir/Self-help" and called it "Angst, distilled and unedited."

This snowballed into planning an alternative bookstore. Instead of "Romance" "Mystery" "Science Fiction" we'd have sections labeled:

Schadenfreude
Bildungsroman
Escapism -- exotic
Escapism -- domestic
Escapism -- financial
Wishful Thinking
More of the Same

Can anyone think of any more?
